NIGHTWOOD, Sculpture, mixed media, variable dimensions, Artemisia Gallery, Chicago 1991, W.A.R.M. Gallery, Minneapolis 1990, San Francisco Arts Commission Gallery1989

NIGHTWOOD is a sculpture series that began as a response to Edward Hicks’ paintings of the ‘peaceable kingdom’. Literal and metaphorical shadows are cast over this idyll, suggesting instead, mechanized slaughter and scientific experimentation, through a mixture of industrial, medical and alchemical materials. Human and animal forms, along with found objects, hang suspended from bars by a web of cables that imply both manipulation and interdependence, catastrophe or transcendence.
